    Riding the momentum of claiming the school’s first MACJC state championship in men’s basketball since the 1930s, the Lions of East Mississippi Community College will begin play at this week’s NJCAA Region 23 Basketball Tournament in Clinton by taking on the reigning regional champion Holmes Bulldogs during Wednesday’s quarterfinals.  Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. at A.E. Wood Coliseum on the Mississippi College campus.

    The Lions of East Mississippi Community College made school history by culminating a successful three-day run at the MACJC State Basketball Tournament with a 61-58 victory over host Jones College in Thursday night’s title game at A.B. Howard Gymnasium to claim EMCC’s first-ever state championship in men’s basketball.

    The Lions of East Mississippi Community College advanced to Thursday’s MACJC state men’s basketball championship game by rallying from a nine-point, second-half deficit to claim a 62-57 upset victory over 15th-ranked Pearl River Community College in Wednesday’s semifinals of the state junior college basketball tournament being played at A.B. Howard Gymnasium on the Jones College campus.

    The MACJC North Division champion Lions of East Mississippi Community College won their seventh straight game with a 70-53 victory over East Central Community College during Tuesday’s quarterfinals of the MACJC State Basketball Tournament being played at A.B. Howard Gymnasium on the Jones College campus.

    Fresh off the Lions claiming their first MACJC North Division men’s title since the 2012-13 season, the East Mississippi Community College basketball teams will jointly participate in next week’s MACJC State Basketball Tournament in Ellisville.  Women’s play begins Monday and men’s action starts Tuesday at A.B. Howard Gymnasium on the Jones College campus.

    The East Mississippi Community College basketball teams registered their fifth consecutive doubleheader sweep in MACJC North Division play by knocking off the Itawamba men’s and women’s teams during Monday’s ‘Sophomore Night’ twin bill at Keyes T. Currie Coliseum.  The Lady Lions snapped ICC’s 16-game win streak by holding on for a 56-54 victory over the ICC women, while the Lions gained sole possession of first place in the division standings with a 63-51 nightcap triumph over the Indians.
  • Lions claim seventh win in eight games with 74-67 victory at Northwest

    East Mississippi Community College’s basketball winning streaks jointly improved to four consecutive games, as the EMCC men’s and women’s teams swept Northwest Mississippi on the road during Monday night MACJC North Division action played at Howard Coliseum.  The visiting Lady Lions overcame an early double-digit deficit to claim a 58-48 victory, while the Lions men recovered from a six-point halftime hole to earn a 74-67 nightcap win over the Rangers.  
  • Lions put five players in double digits in 87-62 home victory over Coahoma

    The East Mississippi Community College basketball teams closed out a successful week of home hoops action by sweeping Coahoma during Thursday night MACJC North Division play at Keyes T. Currie Coliseum.  Following the Lady Lions’ 56-45 win over CCC, the EMCC Lions had five players score in double figures during their 87-62 nightcap victory over the Tigers.

    The East Mississippi Community College basketball teams picked up convincing double-digit home victories over Holmes Community College during Monday night’s MACJC North Division hoops action contested at Keyes T. Currie Coliseum.  The Lady Lions shot 69 percent from the field in the second half to coast to a 71-49 victory in women’s action, while the EMCC men moved into a first-place tie within the division with their solid 70-59 triumph over the Bulldogs.
  • Four double-digit scorers lift Lions to 72-67 road triumph over Mississippi Delta

    The East Mississippi Community College basketball teams tipped off the second half of the MACJC conference hoops slate in winning fashion by sweeping Mississippi Delta during Thursday’s action at J.T. Hall Coliseum.  The EMCC women used a 9-0 run coming out of halftime to help propel them to a 65-50 win, while the Lions had four double-digit scorers in their 72-67 victory over the Trojans in the men’s nightcap.
  • EMCC men fall 68-65 to Northeast in matchup of divisional co-leaders

    The East Mississippi Community College basketball teams both let halftime leads slip away in dropping a home MACJC North Division doubleheader to Northeast Mississippi during Monday night hoops action at Keyes T. Currie Coliseum.  The EMCC women fell 66-59 in the opener, while the Lions dropped a 68-65 men’s decision in a battle of division co-leaders.

    The East Mississippi Community College basketball teams claimed their second MACJC North Division sweep of the week by earning a 69-55 women’s victory followed by a 102-89 men’s nightcap win over visiting Northwest Mississippi Community College during Thursday night hoops action played at EMCC’s Keyes T. Currie Coliseum.
  • EMCC Lions earn much-needed 52-50 road triumph over Coahoma

    The East Mississippi Community College basketball teams claimed much-needed road victories over Coahoma Community College during Monday’s MACJC North Division hoops action played at the Pinnacle.  The Lady Lions snapped a five-game losing skid with a 51-50 victory, while the EMCC men bounced back from last week’s pair of tough one-point setbacks with a 52-50 nightcap win over the Tigers.

    Another early double-digit deficit marked a second straight one-point loss for the East Mississippi Community College men’s basketball team, as the Lions dropped a hard-fought 75-74 road decision to the Holmes Bulldogs during Thursday night’s MACJC North Division hoops action played at Frank Branch Coliseum.

    The East Mississippi Community College basketball teams dropped tough-luck home decisions to East Central Community College during Tuesday night MACJC hoops action at Keyes T. Currie Coliseum.  The visiting Warriors outlasted the home-standing Lions by a 55-52 final tally in women’s action and prevailed again in men’s play with a narrow 58-57 road victory over EMCC.
  • EMCC Lions open new calendar year with 80-68 road win over Meridian

    In their first basketball action of the new calendar year following the holiday break, the Lions of East Mississippi Community College used a 16-0 run early in the second half to break open a close contest en route to posting an 80-68 road victory over rival Meridian Community College Thursday evening at Graham Gymnasium.  In women’s action, the Meridian Lady Eagles claimed a 70-51 triumph over the visiting EMCC Lady Lions.

    The East Mississippi Community College basketball teams successfully tipped off the MACJC North Division slate by sweeping visiting Mississippi Delta Community College Monday evening at Keyes T. Currie Coliseum.  The EMCC women claimed a solid 75-64 win in the opener, while the home-standing Lions cruised to a 94-77 victory over the Trojans in the men’s nightcap.

    The East Mississippi Community College men’s basketball team returned from the Thanksgiving holiday break to post a commanding 89-55 home victory over Faith Prep Academy during a Monday night hoops doubleheader at Keyes T. Currie Coliseum.  The EMCC women didn’t fare as well in dropping an 82-73 decision to Snead State Community College during the night’s opening game.

    The EMCC Lions held on for a 74-69 home victory over Meridian Community College during Monday's MACJC non-division hoops action at EMCC's Keyes T. Currie Coliseum. The visiting Lady Eagles rallied from a 12-point, second-half deficit in the opener to claim a 76-69 overtime win over the EMCC women.
  • EMCC Lions set for season hoops opener vs. Royal Ambassadors Prep

    On the heels of Monday’s “Late Nite with the Lions” preseason hoops festivities on the Scooba campus, basketball season tips off for the East Mississippi Community College men’s and women’s teams Thursday evening.  The Lions will play host to the Jackson-based Royal Ambassadors Prep team at 7 p.m. at EMCC’s Keyes T. Currie Coliseum, while the Lady Lions will travel to Monroeville, Ala., to take on Coastal Alabama CC-North at 5 p.m.
