East Mississippi Community College cheer team benefits from successful UCA summer camp experience
The 2014-15 East Mississippi Community College cheerleading squad benefitted from a successful summer camp experience to help prepare for the current academic year.
SCOOBA – The 2014-15 East Mississippi Community College cheerleading squad benefitted from a successful summer camp experience to help prepare for the current academic year.
Under the guidance of second-year head cheerleading coach Amy Thomas, the EMCC cheerleading team claimed numerous accolades during the Open Coed Division of the Universal Cheerleaders Association's (UCA) College Camp held this past July in Tuscaloosa. Along with receiving the Most Improved Award and Game Plan Award, EMCC's cheer team earned third-place honors in the fight song competition. In addition to also collecting a superior trophy, the squad garnered all blue ribbons in sideline, cheer, fight song and game day evaluations.
"We have a lot of talent on this year's team with so much potential, and it really showed this past summer at the UCA camp with our improvement in all areas," Thomas said. "We're excited about the season and for what the future holds for the EMCC cheerleading program."
This year's 24-member EMCC cheerleading team consists of three returnees and 21 first-year members. Returning this season are co-captains Olivia Carpenter (Dutchtown, La.) and Hunter Griffin (Caledonia) as well as Kailey Lavender (Caledonia). First-year female members of the 2014-15 EMCC cheer team include: Hailey Bowie (Forest); Aly Chance (Caledonia); Dancy Clemons (Canton); Hannah Daugherty (Leroy, Ala.); Grace Douzat (West Lauderdale HS); Myia Evans (Lake); Lexi Harden (Oak Hill Academy); Jayde Hendry (South Jones HS); Shanae Hunt (New Hope HS); Logan Lambert (Leake Central HS); Addison Lowery (New Hope HS); Anna McKie (Lamar HS); Raven Necaise (Hancock HS); Kierra Robinson (Quitman); Attia Smith (Nanih Waiya HS); and Kayla Thomas (Noxubee County HS). First-year male members of this year's squad are Nolin Collymore (St. Martin HS), Chance Garner (Ocean Springs), Nick Kosier (Northeast Lauderdale HS), Donald Smith (Billingsley, Ala.), and Cortez Young (West Point).
The 2014-15 East Mississippi Community College cheerleading team will make school history in January by becoming the first EMCC cheer squad to compete in the UCA National Championships to be held at ESPN's Wide World of Sports in Florida.
