  • EMCC’s Jason Brownlee and Terence Cherry named NJCAA Football All-Americans

    East Mississippi Community College sophomores Jason Brownlee and Terence Cherry have been named 2019 NJCAA Football All-Americans.  Products of West Point High School, Brownlee was named to the NJCAA’s first team while Cherry picked up second-team honors.  The selections were made by the NJCAA Football Committee and announced Tuesday by the NJCAA national office headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina.

    East Mississippi Community College sophomores Jason Brownlee, Josh Smith and Terence Cherry have been named to the 2019 NJCAA All-Region 23 football team, as selected by the MACJC’s head football coaches and announced Thursday by MACJC Commissioner Steven Martin.

    Headlined by NJCAA receptions and receiving yards leader Jason Brownlee, the East Mississippi Community College Lions have placed seven players on the MACJC’s 2019 all-conference football team.  The first and second teams of the MACJC’s North and South Divisions were selected by the conference’s head football coaches and announced Tuesday by MACJC Commissioner Steven Martin.

    Set to make their 11th MACJC football playoff appearance in 12 seasons under Coach Buddy Stephens’ guidance, the 13th-ranked and three-time reigning state champion Lions of East Mississippi Community College travel to Perkinston to begin their title defense by taking on the top-ranked and unbeaten Mississippi Gulf Coast Bulldogs Saturday evening in the MACJC semifinals.  Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at A.L. May Memorial Stadium on the MGCCC campus.
  • Three-time reigning state champion EMCC Lions make playoffs with 30-22 homecoming win over Northeast

    It all came down to the final football game of the MACJC regular season, but the 14th-ranked Lions of East Mississippi Community College made it well worth the wait by earning the No. 2 seed in the MACJC’s North Division standings with a 30-22 homecoming victory over Northeast Mississippi Community College during Saturday’s conference action played at EMCC’s Sullivan-Windham Field.
  • No. 14 EMCC Lions to close out regular season with homecoming matchup versus Northeast Tigers

    Bidding for their 11th MACJC playoff appearance in the last 12 seasons, the 14th-ranked Lions of East Mississippi Community College will close out the regular-season portion of their football slate by playing host to Northeast Mississippi Community College on Saturday afternoon as part of homecoming festivities on the Scooba campus.  Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. at EMCC’s Sullivan-Windham Field.

    The 17th-ranked Lions of East Mississippi Community College snapped a two-game losing skid by claiming a 55-20 MACJC North Division victory over Coahoma Community College in their final regular-season road action Thursday night at James E. Miller Stadium.

    In an offensive slugfest that featured 1,005 yards of total offense, 91 total points scored and 49 first downs combined between the two teams, the eighth-ranked Lions of East Mississippi Community College let a 14-0 first-half lead slip away in dropping a 49-42 road decision to Holmes Community College during Thursday night’s MACJC North Division football action played at Ras Branch Field.

  • Third-ranked EMCC’s 36-game home win streak snapped in 56-36 setback to No. 7 Northwest

    In a battle of top-10 MACJC gridiron powers, the third-ranked Lions of East Mississippi Community College could not overcome a 20-point halftime deficit while seeing their seven-year, 36-game home winning streak at Sullivan-Windham Field snapped with Thursday’s 56-36 setback to No. 7 Northwest Mississippi Community College.

    The fifth-ranked Lions of East Mississippi Community College forced six turnovers and held East Central Community College to just 81 second-half yards of total offense while registering a 24-0 home victory over the visiting Warriors during MACJC interdivisional football action played Thursday evening at Sullivan-Windham Field.

    Atop the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Preseason Football Rankings for the sixth time in the last eight years, the five-time national champion Lions of East Mississippi Community College are set to open the 2019 campaign by traveling to Raymond to take on the Hinds Community College Eagles Thursday evening.  Kickoff for the season-opening, interdivisional contest is slated for 6:30 p.m. at Gene Murphy Field/Joe Renfroe Stadium.
