EMCC’s Daniel Schroeder tied for fourth after Round 1 of NJCAA Region 23 Golf Championship
East Mississippi Community College sophomore Daniel Schroeder sits in a three-way tie for fourth place after carding a 2-over-par 74 during Monday’s opening round of the NJCAA Region 23 Men’s Golf Championship being held at Back Acres Country Club. The two-day tournament, hosted by Northwest Mississippi Community College, concludes Tuesday.

The two-day tournament, hosted by Northwest Mississippi Community College, concludes Tuesday.
Schroeder, competing as an individual for head coach Benji Williams' EMCC squad, was 1-under on Monday's back nine to complete the day tied in fourth place with MACJC State Championship medalist Grant Motter of Mississippi Gulf Coast and Meridian's Camden Backel. Schroeder, from Baton Rouge, La., birdied the 395-yard 11th hole and had pars on the other eight holes following the turn.
With an even-par 72, Copiah-Lincoln's Philip Heine owns a 1-shot edge over MACJC stroke average leader Lance Strickland of Meridian CC as well as Colin Troxler of first-round team leader Mississippi Gulf Coast.
In the team competition on the 6,511-yard layout, the MGCCC Bulldogs pace the five-team field by six strokes following Monday's opening-round 299. Meridian (305) and Co-Lin (306) stand second and third, respectively, followed by host Northwest Mississippi (316) and East Central (325).
EMCC's Schroeder is scheduled for a 9:36 a.m. tee time for Tuesday's Round 2 at Back Acres. Live scoring of final-round NJCAA Region 23 Golf Championship action will be available online at www.golfstat.com.
