TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The East Mississippi Community College women's basketball team ran into a buzzsaw at ninth-ranked Shelton State by dropping a 106-42 road decision to the home-standing Lady Bucs during Monday night's hoops action played at the Umphrey Center.
EMCC's Micaiah Satcher opened the game's scoring with a drive to the basket, but that's the only lead the visitors would have on the night. The home-standing Lady Bucs reeled off the next 17 points on the way to posting an insurmountable 30-7 advantage following the first 10 minutes of play.
The Lady Lions played Shelton State to within single digits (25-16) during the second quarter, as the Lady Bucs maintained a comfortable 55-23 halftime cushion.
The game's final margin doubled from there with Shelton State claiming the third and fourth quarters, 27-9 and 24-10, respectively, to finish off the 64-point outcome in favor of the reigning NJCAA Division I national runners-up.
Slowed by 33 turnovers in the contest and limited to only 22-percent shooting (11-of-51 FGs) for the game, the EMCC women were led by the backcourt tandem of Dukiaha Jones and Cenaya Calhoun-Jingles with 11 and 10 points, respectively, to jointly account for half of the Lady Lions' points on the night.
Head coach Isaiah Butler's 3-3 EMCC women's team will have a rematch with nationally 10th-ranked Wallace State-Hanceville on Thursday (Nov. 20) prior to the Thanksgiving holiday break. With Wallace State-Hanceville having previously posted a 51-40 road win over EMCC two weeks ago (Nov. 6) in Scooba, Thursday's contest in Hanceville is set for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff at Traditions Bank Arena inside Tom Drake Coliseum.
