EMCC’s Lucy Lunceford places 19th in women’s golf spring opener in Georgia
East Mississippi Community College sophomore Lucy Lunceford began spring golf competition with a 19th-place individual finish at the Golden Tiger Spring Collegiate Invitational. GAINESVILLE, Ga. – East Mississippi Community College sophomore Lucy Lunceford began spring golf competition with a 19th-place individual finish at the Golden Tiger Spring Collegiate Invitational. Hosted by Georgia-based Brenau University, the two-day women's tournament was held Monday and Tuesday (March 2-3) at Chattahoochee Golf Club.
A reigning NJCAA Championship participant from Tuscaloosa, Ala. (Northside HS), Lunceford fired rounds of 92 and 89 as one of only two junior college players who participated in this week's 36-player field comprised primarily of NAIA competitors.
Louisiana-based Loyola University (317-303—620) easily claimed the team title over Point University (338-327—665), host Brenau (357-347—704), Truett McConnell's "B" team (370-349—719), North Carolina-based Montreat College (389-381—770), and Reinhardt University (476-434—910).
The tournament field also included three players from Tennessee-based Bryan College along with Georgia Military College's Marissa Holder.
Individual medalist honors were earned by Loyola's Catherine Singletary (76-74—150), who bested teammates Aaliyah Achary (79-76—155) and Johanna Elisabeth Haver (82-76—158).
Lunceford will next compete for EMCC head golf coach Mark Furnari in the Calhoun Women's Spring Classic, March 23-24, at Burningtree Country Club in Decatur, Ala.
